Royal festivities at the French court

Le Havre (76)

17:00 – Théâtre de l'Hôtel de Ville

With music, singing, dancing and sumptuous costumes, Doulce Mémoire invite you to come and enjoy their evocation of such a celebration at the court of François I.

Francis I, who was crowned king of France at the age of twenty, was a chivalrous monarch, a builder of châteaux, a patron who gathered around him the most illustrious artists, poets, musicians, architects and engineers of the Renaissance, including Leonardo da Vinci, Benvenuto Cellini and Francesco Primaticcio. Young, athletic and an excellent dancer, he was to involve all those artists in the court entertainments that reached their height with the so-called “Magnificences” – extravagant and highly refined expressions of the art of the French court fête.

In the Press

“Truly creative. Much more than a re-creation, restoration or reconstruction.”
Mouvement.net, 24 November 2015, Nicolas Villodre

” The performance was superb and gorgeous in its authenticity, with period music, dances, and costumes. […] We look forward to seeing more performances like this in the future.”
